PACS software requirements for diagnostic centres in Bangladesh

For a diagnostic centre, PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) is core infrastructure — it stores every study and puts it in front of the radiologist. Here is a practical requirements checklist before you choose a PACS in Bangladesh.

Full DICOM support

Any credible PACS must implement the core DICOM services so it works with any conformant modality:

  • C-STORE to receive images from modalities
  • C-FIND / C-MOVE to query and retrieve studies
  • Storage Commitment so the modality knows a study is safely stored
  • Modality Worklist (MWL) so technologists never re-type patient data at the machine

DICOMweb and a zero-footprint viewer

Modern PACS adds web-native access via DICOMweb (WADO-RS, QIDO-RS, STOW-RS) and a zero-footprint viewer that runs in the browser. That means radiologists and referring physicians open studies with nothing to install — essential for remote reading and for sharing with referrers.

Archiving, performance and reliability

Confirm how the archive scales, how compression is handled (lossless for diagnostic images), how fast prior studies retrieve, and what the backup and disaster-recovery story is. A busy centre needs sustained ingest throughput during peak hours without slowing the reading room.

RIS integration and teleradiology

PACS is stronger when paired with a RIS for scheduling, worklists and reporting — so images and the signed report live together. If you plan to read remotely or use sub-specialists, require built-in teleradiology so studies can be routed to off-site readers with a full audit trail.
